KZN Yearling Sales graduate, Wild One.

Long-time supporters of the KZN Yearling Sale, and perennial producers of high class racehorses, the Scott Bros will once again bring a large draft to the KZN Yearling Sale this year.

Previous KZN Sale graduates from the Scott Bros include Equus Champion Wild One, as well as Fillies Guineas runner up Sahara. The latter has since gone on to enjoy success at stud, with her progeny including G1 performer and millionaire Matador Man.

The Scott’s successful resident Storm Cat sire Mogok, sire of both Sahara and Wild One, is once again strongly represented in this year’s draft.
The half-brother to Machiavellian has six yearlings in the Scott draft including Wave (Lot 23) –a colt whose dam is a ½ sister to Gold Medallion hero Rip Curl, Marcellin (Lot 87) a colt whose dam is an own sister to top sprinter Scarena, and African Midnight (Lot 237). The latter is a daughter of six time stakes winner Midnight Ale, and is bred on the same Mogok/Dolpour cross as champion and sire The Apache.

US Champion Miesque’s Approval, a half-brother to 2017 Breeders’ Cup Mile hero World Approval, has two in the draft –Sonetlumiere (Lot 46) is a full-brother to SA Nursery fourth Outshine out of a sister to Sahara, while The Pie Lady (Lot 248) is a filly whose dam is a half-sister to G3 winner Jalberry –the dam of 2017 Golden Horseshoe winner Purple Diamond.

The farm’s G1 winner, and highly promising stallion, Crusade has four fillies on sale. His quartet includes a filly from the same family as G1 winners Stellite and Zirconeum (Lot 78), a filly from the family of champion 2yo Candidato Roy (Lot 112), and a filly from the immediate family of November Handicap hero Jungle Sands (Lot 212).

Deceased but successful Danehill sire Toreador (whose progeny include the Scott Bros bred Matador Man) has one here –a filly named Matador Miss (Lot 190). She is out of a mare who won four up to 1400m and is from the same family as G1 sprinter Big Sky Country.

Breeders’ Cup runner up Noble Tune, one of the leading first crop sires in KZN this season, is the sire of Noble Flight (Lot 170). This bay colt is out of a four time winning daughter of champion sire Jet Master from the family of US champion, and Breeders’ Cup runner up, Chilukki.

Other interesting lots in this draft include an Eightfold Path colt whose 3 time winning dam is a sister to exported champion Candidato Roy (Lot 111), a colt by Linngari out of 9 time stakes winner Heartbreaker (Lot 187), and a daughter of Eightfold Path and G3 Three Troikas Stakes winner Patchouli Moon (Lot 262).
