Ever consistent sire Mogok added yet another Stakes winner to his list with Varsfontein-bred Pagoda taking the Derby Trial.

Pagoda collected his second win on the trot, making it the three year old Mogok gelding’s third career win. Pagoda – out of Pascha by Wolfhound – had previously placed three times including the Sea Cottage Stakes Listed. Pascha was sold in foal to Mogok to Varsfontein Stud in 2013 at the Scott Bros reduction sale for R85 000.

Trained by Geoff Woodruff and owned in partnership by Messrs Kuben Gengan, Rajen Devan, G V Woodruff & Mrs S E M Louw, Pagoda sold for R100 000 off the 2015 Val De Vie Cape Yearling Sale, and has earned almost R400 000 including the BSA Value Added Stakes bonus of R77 500.

This is the immediate damline of Do You Remember, Festive Occasion and Sarasota.

Mogok filly Costa Del Sol placed fourth in the Oaks Trial Listed behind Belle Rose. The filly out of Corre Solta, the dam of Black Pepper and placed The Grey Crusader, is owned in partership by Mr MA Anthony and Team G Racing. She has placed seven times and won twice.

Crusade’s half-sister, dual Gr1 winner Seventh Heaven defeated the bulk of the boys in the Gr1 Dubai Sheema Classic over 2400m to finish second, after coming from last.

Seventh Heaven, a dual Gr1 Oaks winner who placed in the Breeders Cup, added another Gr1 place to her list and ran courageously to finish behind Jack Hobbs. In the process she defeated Highland Reel and Postponed.

Crusade has a number of yearlings available at Nationals, including a sibling to Gr1 Gold Cup winner, Wild One, and to Matador Man. His imposing son Calladdi finished second at Scottsville on the weekend for the second time, from both his starts for Greenstreet Bloodstock.

Mogok is represented by four yearlings at the upcoming National Yearling Sale, including a three parts sibling to Gr2 winner Meadow Magic (Lot 133), a colt out of a Jet Master mare from the immediate damline of Kelly and Victory Moon (Lot 251), a full brother to Gr3 placed and 3-time winner Ballito Boy (Lot 373) and a filly out of Royal Academy mare Majestic Legend – a full brother to winner Grand Epoque from the damline of a strong Australian Black Type family (Lot 34).
